Serve

The core purpose of Imagine Global is to care for the vulnerable. We have five different community programs that support various groups such as the elderly and disabled, refugee youth and the homeless. We believe every single beneficiary is worth our dedicated energy and heart.

Imagine

We aim to imagine a better future for our communities, and we love dream big. We have connections at local, national and global levels that allows us to impact across the world. We also value creative leadership. We are always thinking of a fresh community project to serve a new vulnerable group, or being innovative in solving a societal problem.

Inspiring a movement

Imagine Global isn’t just a social service organization, we are a revolution of compassion. We believe a movement made up of simple acts of kindness is an unstoppable force against the injustice and suffering we see in the world today. Hence, we are utlising digital and social platforms to also raise awareness about this revolution, to inspire this generation and beyond.

The Problem

  • According to Australian Bureau of Statistics, 5% or 1.2 million people in Australia need help in their day-to-day core activities. In particular, vulnerable groups like the elderly, disabled and single parents are at risk of being left behind.

  • Due to poor health or lack of resources, these groups of people struggle with simple tasks we take for granted, like de-cluttering a house or maintaining a backyard. Their mental and physical health can quickly fall apart when there is the added pressure of an acute crisis occurring. Eviction from their homes and homelessness may result.

  • Since COVID-19, statistics show that 1 in 15 Australians were unable to get support from the community in times of crisis. Issues of termination notices are increasing as vulnerable families are coming out of Covid restrictions with fewer safety nets than before.

The Reversal

  • The Crisis Home Support program works toward reversing these statistics. The aim of this program is to provide support and practical services to families or individuals in a crisis situation. This includes simple everyday tasks like de-cluttering a house or maintaining a backyard, which any ordinary person can do. Our scope of tasks may expand, as long as it is within the capability of an ordinary person and does not require specialist expertise. We also seek to connect and provide emotional support.

  • Imagine Global has completed 100 visits to reach about 150 needy people, all of who belong to a  vulnerable group.

  • The need is great - We currently have a rate of up to 32 referrals for our program in 2 months. As we grow, so does the demand. We are constantly contacted by community groups, town councils, and government housing officers.

Challenges Multicultural Youths face

Imagine Global recognizes the difficulty migrants and refugee youth have in adapting to Australian culture and fully accessing opportunities. They often face unseen mental pressures from bullying, socio-economic barriers and even previous trauma.

The Imagine Youth Mentoring program works to facilitate integration of these Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) Youth in Australian society and promote their mental resilience. It also prevents misunderstanding of CaLD communities and demonstrate how young people can collaborate with their CaLD peers.

Imagine Global is proud to be recognized by Auspost in 2021 with a generous grant to continue providing this program.

Imagine Youth Mentoring

Imagine Youth Mentoring had it’s pilot run in 2020, set-up with the help of the not-for-profits 'Save the children' and 'Multicultural futures'. In this 6-month, free program, trained university students or graduates are allocated to befriend a CALD/refugee youth and have 2-3 weekly mentorship sessions based on mutually set goals. Goals may range from learning sport to preparing a resume, and can be social or academic. The program differs from other mentorship programs as it is not purely academically focused. It is based instead on social interaction and achieving achievable objectives which may include relational, interest-specific or academic elements.

Whilst not running currently, Homeless Healthcare is a central service that Imagine Global was involved in. It reflects our passion for providing accessible medicare care, to those who need it most. We hope to reconnect this initiative soon.

Imagine Global organizes training sessions where Dr Andrew Davies, director of Homeless Healthcare, equips medical and health science-related students to be outreach workers. They are then allocated to homeless drop-in centres. In these centres, our students aim to establish relationships that improve the general well-being and mental health of homeless clients. Participating universities include UWA, Curtin and the University of Notre Dame in Western Australia.

Beyond medical care, we have also worked with St Mary’s outreach service in the past to provide weekly meal service to the homeless. We are always open to initiatives that enrich the lives of the homeless, and support them through their situation.

4 Humanitarian trips

Siam Reap, Cambodia

Imagine Global recognises that vulnerable groups across the world are often barred from accessing adequate medical care, due to a variety of economic and political situations. Imagine Global and the doctors that run it are passionate about closing the gap in medical care, and therefore, creating a better world.

Since 2015, Imagine Global has supported a surgical GP in Western Australia to organize medical trips to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Over the years the charity has sent a handful of medical students and doctors to oversee health clinics in disadvantaged areas of this region.

Thessaloniki, Greece

In Dec 2019, just before COVID-19 hit, Imagine Global organized it’s first humanitarian trip to Thessaloniki, Greece. It partnered with Medical Volunteers International (MVI), an organisation that provides medical support and access to refugees in Greece. Imagine Global brought across a team of doctors, medical students, and volunteers to Thessaloniki to assist in the medical clinic set up by MVI. They were all soon put to work bandaging wounds, organising medical supplies, and assisting with the daily dinners that MVI put on for refugees. Once travel resumes, so will our overseas humanitarian efforts. Watch this space for more updates!

We believe the people in aged-care homes are a neglected demograohic of society. Many of them have multiple medical conditions and on top of that have to grapple with the difficulties and loneliness of being in a home.

This program brings light and life into the lives of the elderly by social interaction and engaging them with songs/activities.
